I was pulling into a parking spot next to a Ford Fusion at my local Waffle House this morning, when, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted something weird on the Fusion. I parked the car, got out, and walked around behind the Ford, and sure enough, my eyes hadn’t deceived me- there was a badge on the back that said “Mondeo.”
I was completely flummoxed by this. The car had US-market tailights (red turn signals), so it wasn’t an import. Someone, then, had to have purposefully badged the car as a Mondeo!
Why would anyone ever do such a thing? The car had no other modifications. Who would spend good money on this badge? I can understand the rationale behind fake M and AMG badges, but this? To me, it makes no sense.

Slightly related:
I once saw a Buick Regal with Vauxhall badges in a mall parking lot once. Another time, someone badged their Pontiac Wave as a Daewoo.
I swear people only do this to confuse me.

A different edm.

I guess they wanted their Fusion to stand out since it’s sold as a Mondeo elsewhere in the world. Like how Mazda Miata guys will rebadge them as Eunos Roadsters and Mazda 3/6 as Axelas/Atenzas.

I changed out OG Hyundai badges for the black KDM ones. They look so much better. I hate chrome sooooo much. It makes the car a little different, even though there aren’t many around!

How is it any weirder than a badge-swapped G8/Commodore, Mazda3/Axela, FR-S/86, etc.?

Meh. Why do people want to swap the scion badges on their BRZs for GT86 ones? I don't get it either, but it makes them happy.

Same reason someone would put Honda badges on their RSX.

“The car had US-market tailights (red turn signals)...“
Which leads to the question: why bother changing the rest of the world lights for special ones for the North American market? Does it really save a measurable amount of money?
Actually and now that I think of it this is a Mondeo tail light. It doesn’t look as though it has orange indicators but it does. Is this like the one you saw?
Here, by way of contrast, is a Fusion one:

Same reason folks put Bora badges on their Jetta and Lobo Badges on their F-150s. Well, at least down here they do. To be different or re-badge it as it would be in their home market.

Just a closet Jalop. There’s a guy with a Pontiac G8 in south Austin with Holden badges. Which is awesome.

10/10 would do just to confuse people. Pity the Volvo V50 was sold under the same name worldwide...

It was definitely a USDM Fusion. Besides, I can’t imagine that someone would risk jail time for breaking the 25 year rule just to get a slightly different car!

You mean FR-S, right? BRZs are Subarus. Technically, they're all Subarus inside.

Yes, I was joking about how they are interchangeable.
